2022 Nonprofit Needs
As a service to our donors and nonprofits, the Community Foundation of Central Georgia created the High Five grant program to allow local nonprofits to share requests for unique and tangible items beyond their operating budget. Listed below are the submitted needs for 2022. We hope that our donors will find these requests interesting and may choose to support specific needs of local nonprofits this year. As projects are fully funded, we will update the list below. If you have any questions about these projects, please contact the Foundation at 478-750-9338.

Kitty City Cat Rescue | Bibb County – Funded
$2,500.00 for a Kitty Litter for Days
The cats at Kitty City always need cat litter, which is typically donated by volunteers and individuals. It would be great to have a stock of litter to fill the gaps when volunteers are not donating it. We typically used 90 boxes/bags of kitty litter a month! A grant of $2,500 would enable us to buy enough kitty litter to last the shelter 55 days!
Kitty City Cat Rescue | Bibb County – Funded
$1,000.00 for a Vaccines for a Year
We have to make sure that our cats are vaccinated. Kittens get three vaccines and adult cats get one annually. The cost per vaccine is $3, and a grant of $1,000 would provide enough vaccines for the 2023 year.
Kitty City Cat Rescue | Bibb County – Funded
$1,500.00 for a Food for a Year
Our cats eat more than 250 pounds of cat food per month! And we feed our cats Pro Plan or Purina because less expensive food can cause digestive issues and is not good for them. A grant of $1,500 would provide enough food for all of the cats for about two months.
Museum of Arts and Sciences | Bibb County – Funded
$2,500.00 for a Commercial Washer for the MAS Laundry Station
A new Laundry Station would allow staff members to wash linens and towels used in the care and cleaning of our animals. Currently, our employees currently take soiled linens home each day to wash, dry, and fold after hours. The need to perform laundry tasks onsite has increased dramatically in recent years because we have expanded our MiniZoo to include lemurs, bats, and raptors – all of whom produce a lot of dirty towels. A laundry station equipped with a commercial washer and dryer, would enable linens to be cleaned onsite, and we have a space in our maintenance area is plumbed and wired and could be adapted to accommodate the new appliances.

The 567 Center for Renewal, Inc. | Bibb County – FUNDED!
$1,740.00 for a Pottery Wheel
Our pottery studio continues to grow. As people discover the joy of making pottery, our studio has become a busy place. Our pottery wheels are used both by students in pottery classes and by artists who work in our studio. When classes are full, there aren’t enough pottery wheels for the artists to come work. An additional wheel would make a big difference to these artists.

Our Club needs to purchase sixteen (16) Dell chrome notebooks to support our efforts to enhance academic learning loss recovery with students/members at our clubs. These chrome notebooks would be used by students during Project Learn, our highly successful education initiative, that reinforces and enhances the skills and knowledge young people learn at school during the hours they spend at the Club. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia strives to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

Fathers Among Men | Bibb County
Quantity 2 @ $2,500.00/each for two Go-Cart for the Activate Program
We offer programs for young men in Bibb County to learn to think more and stay away from poor decisions and violence. The goal is to keep them involved in reading, science, robotics, and video breakdown on 1st and 3rd Saturdays. We plan to have them spend 2-4 hours improving learning and then spend the rest of the day doing fun activities that occupy their time. We want to purchase two off-road go carts and take them out to dirt trails at least once a month to have fun experiences. This will keep them from negative activities. The youth in Macon need exposure to things outside of their neighborhoods. These go-carts will help motivate youth to be a part of our programs.
Joshua’s Wish | Bibb County
$3,300.00 for a 360 Photo Booth
Joshua’s Wish would like to have a 360 photo booth. Joshua’s Wish hosts several fundraising events during the year, and the 360 photo booth will allow our guests to share their photos on social media platforms. Digital sharing will help Joshua’s Wish market our events to the public and attract more attendees, which, in turn, will raise more funds to further our mission to find a cure for childhood cancer. Additionally, it will help us raise awareness of childhood cancer and offer a fun element for the children and families we support through our mission.
Makin the Connection | Baldwin County
$3,500.00 for Youth Leaders Baldwin Collaboration
Makin the Connection, through the Milledgeville-Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, hosts a program called Youth Leadership Baldwin (YLB) which is a leadership program for high school juniors in Baldwin County who want to develop their leadership skills, broaden their network, and make an impact in their community. The 2023 Youth Leadership Baldwin (YLB) class has 32 participants from Baldwin High School, GCSU Early College, GMC Prep and JM Academy and they have five sessions planned that include a leadership theme and site visit. A grant of $3,500 would provide transportation for the leadership program site visits so that the class can all be on a single bus to foster better connections and information sharing.
The Mentors Project | Bibb County
$5,000.00 for A COPIER
The Mentors Project needs a large copier/printer in order to print large amounts of material to distribute to the students, parents, mentors and donors. The needed printed material includes calendars, newsletters, mentor and protege applications, thank you letters, appeal letters and daily operational reporting. Currently the staff uses copier machines in other departments, which do not have the same office hours as the Mentors Project. Therefore, we don’t have access to a large copier except during the normal workday. The Mentors Project Staff comes in early and works late. The printer we currently have in the office, often runs hot and has to cool down for several hours before it can restart. This is very frustrating when a project needs to be completed within the work day and a student comes in to print their school reports. Most of the students enrolled in the program do not have printers at home, therefore receiving hard copies of program information is important to them.
The Methodist Home for Children and Youth | Bibb County

Any funding received will be used to purchase toys and sensory items to use during these sessions as we help children express their feelings, process their experiences, and learn new coping strategies and behaviors.

Barnesville-Lamar Boys & Girls Club | Lamar County – FUNDED!
$3,800.00 for Gratification Center
We would like to upgrade our sports equipment and game room supplies to help our students reform their interactive resources and entertainment. Our goal is to challenge them to be skillfully and competently, healthy so that they will use these resources as an outlet to promote positive choices for opportunities and so that they feel motivated to continuously exceed. For our outdoor activities, we would like to invest in things such as hula hoops, a variety pack of different sports balls, a soccer game set for the teens, and a tug-a-war rope. For the game room, we would like to see our kids enjoying new video games/systems, seating, game tables, and a new projector to give them the cinema experience.
Campus Clubs Inc. | Bibb County – FUNDED!
$2,000.00 for Tables and Chairs for Second Grade Classroom
Our second grade classroom sorely needs new tables and chairs for students to complete homework lessons and educational assignments. Currently we have an assortment of tables and individual desks. After a decade, the tables are regularly losing legs. Our Program Director is constantly attempting to salvage or replace the legs. The chairs are also over 20 years old. With 25 students in the classroom, we do not have adequate seating for our students to properly learn. We believe in the cooperative learning model. Students learn better when they are collaborating and this includes sitting together. Our current set up of individual desks and broken tables hinders this educational approach. The ability to purchase new tables and chairs for our second grade classroom would increase our students ability to concentrate on their studies by giving them the proper equipment to learn.
Crossroads Christian Counseling Center | Bibb County – FUNDED!

Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia | Bibb County – FUNDED!
$2,600.00 for Theater System for Family Visitations
Funds will be used to purchase a self-contained Theater System for family visitation days for the men, women, & children in our Life-Recovery Program. Addiction, abuse, and violence throw families out of balance, and into turmoil. Spouses, children, and other loved ones are often the unintended victims. Many therapeutic activities utilized during visitations are intended to promote effective communication, boundary setting, conflict resolution, and to create lasting, meaningful bonds. However, sometimes participants just need to spend time “being a family” doing “normal family stuff.” The Theater System will enable us to host outdoor and indoor Movie Nights for these families as they seek opportunities to heal and reconnect.
Community & Economic Development
HALO Group | Houston County
$3,209.00 for Greenhouse Materials
The HALO Group works with young adults with disabilities to increase their independence through job training and providing opportunities for them to interact in and contribute to the community. They purchased the New Perry Hotel several years ago with the intention of using the hotel to create jobs, and train people with disabilities to work at jobs in the community as well as generate funds to sustain our mission. They recently purchased a Greenhouse for their participants to grow herbs and vegetables for local restaurants, but it needs an exhaust fan, louvers, a breaker box, receptacles, wiring, cement, cap blocks, landscape fabric, an anchor kit, pea gravel and galvanized pipe.
Macon Area Habitat for Humanity, Inc. | Bibb County
$1,125.00 for a Pallet Jack and Carts for the ReStore
Habitat ReStore shoppers can purchase new and gently used materials for construction projects around the house or for commercial projects, which is one of the revenue sources for Macon Area Habitat for Humanity. The ReStore’s popularity continues to grow and pallet jacks and carts that we use to move donations and purchases around the store are worn. An additional pallet jack and carts will help us safely move heavy items and serve more customers.
Macon Area Habitat for Humanity, Inc. | Bibb County
$725.00 for Tools for Construction Volunteers
We are so thankful for the volunteers that work with Macon Area Habitat for Humanity to help us build homes in our community. This gift will help us replace tools that have been well loved by our volunteers for many years. Hammers, paint brushes and shovels are tools that are essential to the construction of our homes and are most often found in the hands of our volunteers. This year we will engage over 1,000 volunteers in our mission to provide much needed homeownership opportunities to low-income families in our community.
Rebuilding Macon, Inc. | Bibb County
$3,700.00 for Paving the (Drive)Way
Rebuilding Macon is requesting money to pave the driveway that leads to the loading dock at our warehouse. Currently, the loading area is unpaved and this causes our Ford work trucks to sink into the soil when our volunteers are unloading building materials and donations. This becomes especially difficult after substantial rain. This improvement would not only benefit the trucks, but ease the workload of the staff and volunteers as well.
Friends of the Library, Inc. | Bibb County – FUNDED!
$1,950.00 for Portable signs for book sales and book giveaways
To direct community attendees to “pop-up” book sales and book giveaways, we want to purchase a portable and reusable set of vertical feather flags and sandwich boards. A grant for signage for outdoor events would let us expand beyond our bookstore and big book sale. We always have plenty of donated books and we have the volunteers to staff events. The signage would increase our reach.
Rebuilding Macon, Inc. | Bibb County – FUNDED!
$1,300.00 for Air Compressor
Rebuilding Macon does not have an operational air compressor at our shop. This money would be used to purchase a new air compressor (with appropriate PSI and capacity) so that our staff and volunteers may use tools at the shop to make repairs. Our volunteers often complete repair projects at the shop and then take them to the homes needing the repairs.
Education
Lead With Literacy | Bibb County
$2,000.00 for Books to Action Community Book Club
Books to Action is an intergenerational book club with a twist, combining reading and community action. Readers of all ages meet up at a community location, select a book to read based on a selected theme relating to important topics that affect the community, discuss the book and then take part in a meaningful and fun service-learning project to benefit their community. There will be two opportunities to be a part of this experience. Participants will receive a copy of the book with discussion questions prior to the meet up. The grant funds would be used to purchase the books, provide light refreshments to be served during the meetings and to purchase supplies for the community service project. Community Leaders will work together to select the theme, age appropriate books for adults, teens and children, and ideas for possible action projects. Book Club members will plan and complete the action project and share their stories within the community to help inspire others.
Queen Academy, Inc. | Bibb County

As a part of our program, we would like to launch a weekly behavior incentive for program participants that encourages them to demonstrate our core values of respect, excellence, gumption, accountability, and love. The challenge includes a behavior tracker that allows participants to earn teacher signoffs for demonstrating positive behaviors. If participants earn 100 teacher signoffs over the course of a week, they earn a restaurant lunch or other small prizes during their weekly mentoring session with Queen Academy. These grant funds will be used to provide these weekly incentives to 10-12 program participants for the entire school year.
United Way of Central Georgia | Twiggs County
$1,700.00 for Dolly Parton Imagination Library, Twiggs County
The Dolly Parton Imagination Library is a book gifting program that provides free age-appropriate books to children from Birth to five. The books are high-quality books mailed directly to the child’s home monthly. Children graduate from the program on their 5th birthday and receive a final book with a special message that wishes them well as they begin kindergarten. We want to continue the expansion of this program by providing the program to 100 children for one year in Twiggs County. We currently interact with families in Twiggs through our Read United program which provides tutoring in the elementary schools, and we are currently expanding our home visiting programing in Twiggs. We strive to enhance this work and have a greater impact on families and children by providing these early learning resources. This programming will support families by promoting early literacy skills and language development and help families develop a home literacy practice and promote parent engagement.

We want to be a good neighbor and spruce up our property to reflect the exciting revitalization happening in our neighborhood. Part of our new landscaping plan including planting holly bushes and crepe myrtle trees along our fence line. Twenty-two 7-gallon holly bushes cost $2,250.00 and seven 15-gallon crepe myrtles cost $750.00 This landscaping would replace the asphalt that is currently on the hill in our parking lot. As we work to help low-income families become successful homeowners, it is important that we take care of our “home” too and make Holt Avenue a better entrance to the Napier Heights neighborhood.
Health & Human Services
Georgia STOMP, Inc. | Bibb County
$1,000.00 for Coalition Summits
Georgia STOMP holds biennial Summits for leaders from all of our member organizations. The coalition currently consists of 30 organizations spanning the state. These events occur in the fall as we prepare for the legislative session, and in the spring when we look at what our focus should be during the coming year. Costs for these events include venue, food, handout materials and more. The coalition consists of somewhat disparate groups of organizations with the common interest in advancing menstrual equity and eliminating period poverty. These Summits are vital for communication, for community, and – most importantly – for obtaining consensus about priorities and methods of achieving them.

Quantity Needed: 2 @ $2,250.00 for a Set of 25 Breast Cancer Awareness Kits

These packages include breast self-exam cards, self-exam teaching model with lump, brochures, pens, and resource information. Also included are a pink tablecloth, signage, candy, and bracelets. Providing these packages for minority-led churches, health fairs, and other community events will help awareness and education of both pre- and post-diagnosis support in Central Georgia. These funds would purchase 50 boxes of supplies to be deployed throughout our 23 county service area. Connecting with our community will help with early detection, improved quality of life, and increased health literacy as these families are made aware of the education and services available to them.
United Way of Central GA | Bibb County
$3,300.00 for Nourish to Engage
United Way of Central Georgia employs several strategies to increase participation. In its Nourish to Engage program, light meals, refreshments, and snacks are incorporated in program implementation as a motivating factor for drawing and retaining participants. Campus Clubs Inc. | Bibb County – FUNDED!
$3,000.00 for New Flooring for Our Counseling Room
This summer, a social worker on staff created a new mental health program. Students gather twice a month to learn about their brains. They are also given somatic and cognitive resources to mitigate the impact of stress and trauma. Group classes are important, but individual sessions will allow students to go deeper and to receive more contextualized tools. We have designated a room for these sessions to take place, but the room is sorely outdated. Decades old stains are on the carpet and we don’t feel comfortable with students sitting and playing on these floors. In order for these individual sessions to take place, we need new flooring. We have chosen a durable, laminate vinyl that is installed in planks. The cost of the vinyl is $3.62 per square foot. With labor included, our budget total rounds out to $3,000.

$890.00 for Exercise Equipment – Fitness for All
Our new program, Fitness for All, gives persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities and those without disabilities the opportunity to get to know one another. The clients we serve are often socially isolated from people without disabilities, except for interacting with their family and our staff. By working out together, everyone has the chance to grow in a variety of ways, especially through fitness and friendship. Our fitness classes will be held once per month at different parks and recreational facilities. Local certified personal trainers, Zumba instructors, Pilates, and yoga teachers will be leading the classes, but we are in need of certain equipment to make the classes viable. We need yoga mats, weighted dumb bells, stress relief balls, yoga exercise straps, and yoga blocks for group classes of up to 29 people.
The Arc Macon, Inc. | Bibb County – FUNDED!
$1,970.00 for Yoga Chairs – Fitness for All
Our new program, Fitness for All, gives persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities and those without disabilities the opportunity to get to know one another. The clients we serve are often socially isolated from people without disabilities. Our clients have much to offer and teach others, just as those without disabilities have much to offer and teach our clients. By working out together, everyone has the chance to grow in a variety of ways, especially through fitness and friendship. Our fitness classes will be held once a month at different parks and recreational facilities. Local certified personal trainers will be leading the classes. Yoga chairs are important for this program. We have budgeted for 14 chairs totaling $1970. Due to disabilities, many of our clients cannot stand for more than 15 minutes. Chair yoga increases inclusivity, provides stress reduction, and promotes balance and coordination. It’s a way for our clients to build endurance at their own pace.

Our residents are forced to spend the holiday season away from their families for their safety. A grant of $1,500 would provide Christmas for six individual residential clients who will be alone this Christmas.

$2,000.00 for The Gift of Reading
Santa doesn’t always come to every house, especially when 69% are below the poverty line. Our school wants to ensure each child has a hand-wrapped gift to open. And not just any gift, but a book that fuels their love of reading. Help give the gift of reading to our 160 students this Christmas.

$1,000.00 for Hunger Doesn’t Stop When School Is Out
Holiday break should be a time of relaxation, family, and gifts. However, for some of our students, especially those living below the poverty line (about 69% of our students do), it’s a time of hunger. With school out, it means students are not getting their provided breakfast, lunch, or snack. We’re looking to fill that void for a few families by providing $100 or $50 grocery gift cards this holiday season.
