As a service to our donors and nonprofits, the Community Foundation of Central Georgia created the High Five grant program to allow local nonprofits to share requests for unique and tangible items beyond their operating budget. Listed below are the submitted needs for 2021. We hope that our donors will find these requests interesting and may choose to support specific needs of local nonprofits this year. $4,350.00 for Interior Repair and Preservation
The Kitty City kitties have managed to tear the sheet rock walls up. We would like to cover the walls with non-scratch, water proof paneling. The window seals have also been damaged and they would also be covered. This would allow for easier cleaning and a lot less damage.
Save A Pet Inc. | Monroe County- FUNDED!
$1,231.00 for Paws to Meet and Greet
Most of our adopters have dogs, Save A Pet provides a substantial fenced area used for dogs and people to meet and interact. To make this area more friendly, inviting and comfortable, we would like to purchase 4 Polywood Adirondack chairs, 2 umbrellas with stands and a dog agility training set.
Arts & Culture
The 567 Center for Renewal | Bibb County – PARTIALLY FUNDED! Still needs $910
$1,110.00 for Easels and drawing boards for art classes
We have been teaching beginning art classes with small tabletop easels, but our more serious painting and drawing students require standing easels and drawing boards to view their work at the proper angle and have freedom of movement while they work. It will greatly help the learning process.
Friends of Douglass Theatre Complex, Inc. | Bibb County- FUNDED!
$5,000.00 for Douglass Theatre’s Digital Documentary
Funding would be used to purchase two electronic interactive kiosks for the Douglass Theatre’s multimedia project: “Digital Documentary.” The goal is to capture, share, and preserve the full history of the theatre as a cultural treasure, which will be made accessible to the community and visitors.
Macon Arts Alliance | Bibb County- FUNDED!
$1,700.00 for Screen Printing in the Tech Toolshed
Macon Arts Alliance operates an artist resource center called the Tech Toolshed inside the Mill Hill Community Arts Center. The Toolshed allows artists access to tools and technology they may not be able to otherwise afford to further their artistic practice including a commercial large format printer, creative software, high-spec computers, as well as camera and lighting equipment.

$5,000.00 for Acquisition of “Hands,” textile work by Wini McQueen
During 2020, the MAS presented “The Covering,” a major retrospective celebrating Wini McQueen, an African American textile artist based in Macon. To further honor this exceptional talent, we wish to acquire a significant narrative quilt assemblage entitled “Hands” for our Permanent Collection.
Otis Redding Foundation | Bibb County – FUNDED!
$1,400.00 for Otis Redding Center for the Arts
The Otis Redding Center for the Arts provides instruction in songwriting, instrumentation and production. The Center is equipped with a studio control room and sound isolation booth for student use. This request would cover the cost of a computer to control studio equipment, interfaces and software.

The Otis Redding Center for the Arts provides instruction in songwriting, instrumentation and production. Students from the Center present live performances of their songs as part of community events, and the need has arisen for a PA system to aid in live sound. This request would fund that system.

The Otis Redding Center for the Arts provides instruction in songwriting, instrumentation and production and houses a recording studio. The space is in need of a modern mixing board to interface with new software and interfaces and provide up-to-date instruction. This request would fund that board.

$3,500.00 for Recycle clay for pottery
Our pottery studio has generated over 1000 lbs of leftover clay. Recycling these leftovers into usable clay for classes and artists takes considerable time and labor. A pug mill could do a lot of the work for us, will be used for years to come, and saves us money from buying clay.

The National STEM Academy Robotics lab will use the robotic arms to teach students how industry uses technology. This hands-on approach to teaching science increases student’s interest in and understanding of science, technology and STEM careers. Lemons 2 Pink Lemonade is focused on helping young girls in urban areas change their narrative. Auditory-Verbal Center, Inc. | Bibb County- FUNDED!
$4,000.00 for Auditory-Verbal Tele-therapy (AVT) for deaf children ages 0-5
AVT is an early intervention that teaches hearing disabled children the cognitive and expressive methods needed to function in mainstream classrooms unaccommodated. Funding will help with 1 tv, 2 webcams, 2 computers, a document reader, and baskets and therapy toys for our family lending library.

We will host a science day on our playground area. Using place based education, 100 students will visit different stations to explore local geology, meteorology, life science, and physics. We will purchase rock collection kits, magnet kits, propagation stations, magnifying glasses, and more.

One Leader in Me principle is to form listening skills. We will develop lesson plans that expose students to the beauty of diversity through music, especially genres they don’t know. Our teachers strongly desire a laminator to preserve their lesson plans & student’s work. We also recently became a Leader in Me host site. Many of their classroom supplies require lamination. We spent $180 at Kinkos to laminate 8 posters. The program will require far more trips which is expensive.

Our project is one that provides hope for students with social emotional behavior encounters. “Youth on stage”, allows the students to show what they learned through our performing arts program. Their Talents will be displayed live on stage with the backup of some adult local performers.

$2,940.00 for Safety at Camp Martha Johnston
Girl Scouts throughout Central Georgia camp at Camp Martha Johnston for troop camps, special programs, and/or summer camp. To make them even safer, we need an AED ($1,400), 5 more First Aid Kits ($300), 4 Fire Extinguishers ($140), one Inclement Weather Alarm ($300), and Security Lights ($800).

$800.00 for Youth Mini-Basketball Goal
Kids in Our City, an After School Program, is offered at Trinity UMC. Children are transported (70 to 80) from 2 local Title One Schools. KIOC is provided at no charge to children and families. Children are allowed to participate in many explorations, including basketball. Flexible goals are needed.

Kids in Our City, an After School Program at Trinity UMC is offered at no cost to children in the local area (over 90% attend Title 1 School). Kids have the opportunity to explore many activities. We would like to expand our classes about technology. Items needed include camera, IPad & computer.

We conduct clean ups monthly in our neighborhood, but we do not have the equipment for our volunteers to use to cut the debris from the sidewalks, to cut back the bushes that are growing into the sidewalk area and to cut the grass in the abandoned fields that are abundant in the Napier Heights Neighborhood.

We are requesting $2000 to buy 20 ladders at $100 per ladder. These ladders will be used by our student volunteers (traveling college groups and local high school students). Emergency food boxes will be available every 2 weeks to families affected by Covid-19. Each box will contain food, Hygiene products, Cleaning supplies, mask and hand sanitizer. Each food box will contain enough food for 5-7 days, including fruit and vegetables.

I will be providing mental health first sis kits to the staff/teachers of Bibb County public schools in May. There are 1800 needed! This would cover the costs of those kits. Will be providing the adolescent kits to 6th and 9th grade in august. Mental health funding in public schools is sparse.
Middle Georgia Community Food Bank | Dodge County
$5,000.00 for Save the Dodge County Food Bank
Provide food for a year to keep the Dodge County pantry open. They lost their founder and building and need to move into and fix up a new space, without impacting their clients. It is one of 2 food pantries in a county of 21,820 people, 612 children and 3800 adults are food insecure and needing help.

$5,000.00 for Covering and Caring for Vulnerable Women
This project will help women conquer the shame of homelessness and baldness due to cancer treatments, while also combating climate conditions of breast cancer infusion centers and help cover those women living on the streets, by providing caps, blankets, gloves, and drawstring bags to carry items.
Rehoboth Life Care Ministries, Inc. (RLCM) | Houston County
$3,975.00 for Tooth Extraction Recovery Bags for Food Insecure Adults
Each year, RLCM provides tooth extractions for 500+ patients with debilitating oral pain. With your support, we will go beyond regular dental care and give recovery bags to 530 extraction patients who cannot afford the soft foods and nutritional beverages recommended for a safe, quick recovery.

We plan to host a virtual camp with creative and skill-building activities for Adults with Developmental Disabilities. We plan to begin a Food as Medicine Program which will include a Food Pantry and Food Prescription concept. We need funds to purchase a double glass door freezer to display frozen foods so patients can pick out their prescriptions with dignity as they are assisted by Health Educator/Nutritionist.

$4,500.00 for Macon AIM CharityTracker Yearly Subscription
Community Partnership is seeking assistance for one year of CharityTracker for Macon AIM. The goal of this work is to support Macon AIM in building resilient families in the Bibb community by meeting families’ immediate needs and helping them identify and work towards goals for long-term stability.

$2,000.00 for Family Justice Center Initiative-Non Fatal Strangulation Response Training
Registration for 20 agency partners to learn the basics of investigation, documentation, prosecution, and advocacy of non-fatal strangulation cases to develop an integrated response for Macon. Strangulation is one of the most lethal forms of domestic violence with 750% increased odds for homicide.

A Family Justice Center will open in Macon in 2023 to help victims of family violence get the resources and support they need at one location. Serving 3000 clients a year. That’s a lot of sitting for our therapists and staff. The chairs we currently use have heard a lot in their years of service, they need to retire. Seriously, these chairs are at least 10-15 years old, they wobble and the seat cushions are well worn.

In 2020, we designed a new logo for Family Counseling Center. The new logo has transformed a tired image into a vibrate image embodying the whole person. Our Warner Robins Office, has a sign at the entrance with an old logo. These funds would allow us to have the sign refurbished with the new logo.
Georgia STOMP, Inc. | Bibb County- FUNDED!
$2,000.00 for Expanding Georgia STOMP’s Period Poverty Elimination Work in Georgia
Statewide, grassroots organizing by an established and effective coalition, expanding access to period products for menstruators through state-level policy change. Monies will be used to further educate decision makers, advocate for expanded funding, and engage all stakeholders to effect change.
Loaves & Fishes Ministry of Macon | Bibb County- FUNDED!
$5,000.00 for Rehab large shower and install outdoor access
Rehab and reopen the much needed large shower for client friends, which has been closed since Covid. Current roof flashing is allowing water to “rain” down into the Community Garden tool storage area. We also have a section of the gutter system that is detached. The gutter system is part of a rainwater collection system used for irrigation. We estimate the cost of this project will be $2,500.

14 day program for 20 Rescue Mission residents with medical oversight by Macon Volunteer Clinic. Program will train participants on plant based whole food diet to lower ASCVD risk score and improve multiple chronic conditions. Lab analyses pre/post program will show benefits of lifestyle medicine.
