David Leon and Love Lankford Presley Scholarship Fund

Background

Productive and fruitful endeavors have been highly valued by the Presley and Lankford families and an objective of this Scholarship Fund is to foster sustainable commitment to an education that has a probability of a productive and fruitful life of endeavor for an individual student. This fund is a direct result of the lifetimes of hard work and sacrifice by David Leon Presley and Love Lankford Presley and therefore the best use of the funds is to invest in students serious about preparing themselves for a life of work.

Purpose

To provide a college scholarship to a graduate of Putnam County High School or Gatewood School who has demonstrated a willingness and initiative to engage in some productive and fruitful endeavor during their high school career.

Eligibility

  • Must be a graduate of Putnam County High School or Gatewood School in Putnam County, Georgia.
  • Must be accepted and planning to attend an accredited technical school, college or university. 
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 to apply.

Criteria

Applicants will be selected based on the following:

  • Demonstrated Financial Need
  • Likelihood to achieve a productive and fruitful life’s work
  • Volunteer or work efforts
  • Recommendation from a teacher stating the reasons why the student is deserving of the award consistent with the intent of the scholarship.

Selection Committee

The selection committee shall make the recommendation of the scholarship recipient(s) to the Community Foundation of Central Georgia for fund disbursement.  The scholarship disbursement shall be made directly to the educational institution(s) for the benefit of the scholarship recipient(s). 

The Selection Committee is comprised of a representative from the Presley Lankford family, a guidance counselor or representative from Putnam County High School, a guidance counselor or representative from Gatewood School, and a representative from the Community Foundation of Central Georgia. 

The initial representative of the Presley Lankford family will be either Hugh Cleven Presley or Randy Presley.  If neither of the aforementioned is willing or able to serve, they may designate a successor.  In the event that no successor or designee from a school is willing or able to serve, CFCG shall make a selection award.

Reapplication for Prior Recipients

A prior recipient of the David Leon and Love Lankford Presley Scholarship is eligible to re-apply for each subsequent year of their undergraduate education career by completing the full application each spring.

Additional Information

As part of the online application process, applicants will be asked to write a brief essay addressing their rationale that an award will be a sound investment in furthering their ability to achieve a productive and fruitful life’s work in addition to highlighting the their volunteer or work efforts.

Applicants will also be asked to submit a letter of recommendation from one of their teachers.  The letter should state the reasons the student is deserving of the award consistent with the intent of the scholarship.
