Zuver Fund
David Zuver is remembered as a man who gave quiet leadership and generous support to charitable initiatives throughout Central Georgia. On June 13, 2001, the Community Foundation announced the receipt of a $1 million gift from Mr. Zuver’s estate. “This is an extraordinary gift that will benefit our entire community,” said Foundation Chairman Melvin Kruger. “Dave supported numerous organizations and charitable causes during his lifetime, and he wanted this gift to be used as a permanent endowment to continue to benefit the community after his death.”
Mr. Zuver relocated from Ohio to Macon in 1972. Hе retired in 1987 as Chairman of Enterprise Aluminum Company, a metal cookware manufacturer. He was a founding Board Member of the Community Foundation, and he continued to serve on its Board until his death in February of this year. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and was actively involved with Mount de Sales Academy, the Grand Opera House, the Medcen Foundation, the Cherry Blossom Festival, the United Way and other community organizations.
In accordance with Mr. Zuver’s wishes, the annual income from the Zuver Fund will be used to make grants to a variety of local causes. Funds at the Community Foundation can be established in many different ways. Mr. Zuver elected to establish his fund as an “unrestricted” fund, thus allowing the Foundation’s Board of Directors to use income produced by the fund for community needs it feels are most pressing.
Following Mr. Zuver’s death, the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation adopted a resolution recognizing his “servant leadership and magnanimous giving.” The resolution will be presented to members of the Zuver family later this year.
“Dad loved Macon and was committed to its growth and development,” said Mr. Zuver’s daughter, Barbara Smith. “Не was particularly proud of his role in helping to establish the Community Foundation so that he and others could make this type of permanent gift to the entire community.”
