Matthews Fund
Sharing Family Philanthropy
“Central Georgia has been good to our family over the years. We enjoy supporting worthy causes in the Macon area, as well as other places where we have interests,” says Bill Matthews, who was the Founding Chairman of the Community Foundation of Central Georgia in 1993. “In addition to our own interests, we have three children who live in three different cities and we also take pleasure in helping them support causes in which they’re involved, in the communities where they live and work.”
The Matthews Fund was one of the first funds to be established in the newly formed Community Foundation in 1993, as those inaugural board members were encouraged to set up donor advised funds to jump-start the Foundation’s early efforts. Mr. and Mrs. Matthews advise what grants are made from their fund now, but in future years, their children will recommend grants from this family fund. “The staff of CFCG has accumulated a good knowledge of our children’s interests and the communities they live in so it will be an easy transition.”
