Mr. Charles F. Heard had a distinguished career in banking and insurance and a lifelong dedication to leadership in the causes in which he believed, especially First Presbyterian Church.  He passed away in 2006, but “the Church and the Community Foundation were very important parts of his life,” said Mrs. Heard.

“Charles felt like the Community Foundation had such possibilities for this community,” Mrs. Heard said. “With his background in banking and insurance, he could see so many good things that money used in this way could bring to the community, particularly in providing the means for non-profits to remain stable and grow.”

To support the causes they love, their family created a donor advised fund.  Mrs. Heard especially likes the flexibility of a donor advised fund, which allows their family to make grant recommendations to whatever causes interest them.  Mrs. Heard is also pleased that in the future, their grandchildren will become the decision-makers for the fund.
