“I would go to Fort Valley University about every year prior to attending. I enjoyed the environment. They treat you like family there. I toured the campus on a field trip when I was in high school, and I really loved their Agriculture program, and I wanted to be a part of that. Most of my family, cousins and Dad attended Fort Valley State University.
When I was in high school, at first I wanted to be a veterinarian because I loved animals.
However, my school had a pathway that had agriculture involved. I joined FFA my 10th or 11th grade year, and I learned more and more about agriculture. I became to love it, and I decided to major in that area. The group basically supported and promoted agricultural education.
When I was in FFA, my teacher encouraged me to do a Floriculture competition where basically we were identifying plants and disorders with crops or any type of plant. Other members of the FFA did competitions involving meat where you identified different types of meats.
“Before I went to college, my dad informed me about the Shield Club Scholarship and what a generous organization it is for police officers, firefighters and their families. It is something that really kind of motivated me to attend college and to try my best because I knew somebody was on my side to assist me with funds.”
That is why I chose to major in agriculture engineering and follow that path.
This scholarship means a lot to me. Before I went to college, my dad informed me about the Shield Club Scholarship and what a generous organization it is for police officers, firefighters and their families.
It is something that really kind of motivated me to attend college and to try my best because I knew somebody was on my side to assist me with funds. I used that as motivation throughout working in college.
I really appreciate the scholarship, and it is what carries me through my journey.”
