History and Mission
Our Mission
The Community Foundation of Central Georgia provides donors a simple, powerful, and highly personal approach to giving. Through their funds, CFCG donors support the causes and organizations that they care about, which enhances the quality of life for the people of Central Georgia. Our vision is a Central Georgia where philanthropy thrives, communities are strong, and citizens work toward common goals. The Community Foundation of Central Georgia is widely known for outstanding personal service to donors, strong financial management, effective grantmaking, positive community leadership, and collaboration with its donors, other grantmakers, and nonprofit organizations.
How CFCG works with Donors
Our donors give many different types of assets to the Community Foundation to create their own fund or support our funds, which are carefully invested to allow for grants in perpetuity. Often, our donors establish a fund to create a personal legacy, share family philanthropy, and make an impact in their hometown. Giving to causes they believe in makes an impact in the community, is satisfying, and creates a personal legacy.
What is a Community Foundation?
A community foundation is a place-based charitable organization that is supported by local donors and governed by a board of private citizens who work toward the greater good of the citizens in the region. The long term goals of a Community Foundation typically include:
- Building permanent, component funds established by many separate donors to carry out their charitable interests;
- Supporting the broad-based charitable interests and benefiting the citizens of a defined geographic area; and
- Serving in leadership roles on important community issues.
Our History
The Community Foundation of Central Georgia was founded in 1993 by a group of citizens interested in encouraging philanthropy and strengthening communities. As a local center for philanthropy, the Community Foundation of Central Georgia works with individuals, families, corporations, private foundations and not-for-profit organizations to carry out their charitable objectives and address emerging community issues.
