Nutcracker of Middle Georgia Endowment Fund
The Nutcracker of Middle Georgia, Inc. was founded in 1985 by its Artistic Director, Jean Evans Weaver. The annual presentation of Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Ballet” began with no money, no scenery, and owned no costumes.
From its beginning, Nutcracker has shown responsible stewardship of its resources, never finishing a season in the red or overextending itself to the point of financial trouble.
In the Nutcracker’s 22nd year, something exciting was happening behind the scenes. The Nutcracker of Middle Georgia board established an organizational endowment fund with the Community Foundation of Central Georgia.
While the endowment fund continues to grow, Nutcracker has a separate capital fund to cover the ballet’s production costs. Over the years, the Nutcracker has purchased the costumes, props, scenery, and staging equipment, and it hires quality professional dancers each year to fill the principal roles. These costs will continue to be covered by the operating fund and maintained through ticket and souvenir sales, grants, and donations.
The Nutcracker’s Endowment Fund is an indicator of the organization’s longevity and will help ensure stability for the Nutcracker production in perpetuity.
